Under Fire

My favorite bird is the Mourning Dove. They have soft grey feathers and sweet eyes.....they let me get close enough to them to almost touch them, and they answer me when I sing their song. But in Iowa, some people have decided to pass a law making it ok to hunt and kill these peaceful, beautiful birds. Some people think it would be fun to kill them. I've been told the law would mean people pay money to get a special license to kill them, and that the money is the reason people want to allow hunters to kill these birds.

Money should never be more important than an animal's life.

.

Did you know that when setting up a home for their babies, the male will take the female to many possible sites until she picks the right one, and then he will bring her everything she needs to build her nest? Did you know the males take turns with the females to take care of the eggs until they hatch? Mourning Doves are smart and peaceful. No one should shoot them.

The law in Iowa will only happen if passed by a commitee of seven people who make up the Natural Resource Commitee. I'm emailing all 7 of them to tell them how horrible this idea is, and how much it hurts my heart. Will you email them too? Maybe if enough people email them they will see how mean what they're about to do will be and vote against it. Please contact them.
